Mark and Priscilla Zuckerberg announced the birth of their baby daughter, Max, on December 1 – along with their decision to donate 99 per cent of their facebook stock to charity. The donation amounts to around $US 45 billion, and will be sent to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

Mark Zuckerberg has also extended his parental leave policy to full time employees outside U.S., allowing new fathers to take a four month paid leave upto one year after the birth of their baby. The policy will be effective from January 1 and Mark Zuckerberg himself will be taking two months off in order to spend some time with his daughter.

Many IT companies in Silicon Valley are promoting such parental leave policies in order to recruit and retain good employees. However, not many are able to enjoy their benefits as they may fall behind at work and lose opportunities for promotion.
