India defeated Netherlands to win a bronze in this year’s World Hockey League. This is the team’s first international win after a 33-year gap, post its bronze in 1982 Champions Trophy, Amsterdam.

India hosted the match at the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Stadium, Raipur. It was an edgy first half for the spectators as the Dutch strengthened their lead by two and India struggled to catch up. But in the last two quarters, India was possessed. Ramandeep Singh and Rupinder Singh both clinched two goals and with a final goal by Akshdeep Singh, India was leading the game till the last two minutes, when the Dutch finally levelled up and took the match to shootout.

India won the shootout by 3-2 and finally brought home a bronze, after more than three decades.
