LOCAL RESIDENTS GIVE GENEROUSLY TO SHARE THE DIGNITY

Michelle Rowland MP, Federal Member for Greenway, has thanked local residents for their response to the campaign to share a little dignity with women and girls in need of help.

“This month my office is a collection point for the Share the Dignity #DignityDrive 2017. We are collecting sanitary items, like pads and tampons, which will then be donated to homeless women and girls,” Ms Rowland.

“On any given night in Australia, 1 in 200 people are homeless, 44 per cent of them are female and 27 per cent are children. Family violence is the number one reason people seek the help of homeless services.

“Share the Dignity does amazing work helping out Australian women and children in need, with a particular focus on victims of family violence.

“I was a domestic violence pro bono duty solicitor for 10 years before entering Parliament, and I am appalled by the continuing prevalence of family violence in our society.

“Family violence doesn’t discriminate. It impacts on people’s lives regardless of their background, age or social status.

“Share the Dignity’s #DignityDrive2017 is a great way for our community to help make the lives of women suffering the terrible consequences of family violence just a little bit easier.

“Thank you to everyone who has generously donated so far. The collection drive runs until the end of April, so I would encourage everyone to please stop by my office and make a donation,” Ms Rowland said.

Michelle’s office is located at 230 Prospect Highway, Seven Hills.
Opening hours are 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday.
